A Lockdown Idea.
Life in Lockdown 1.0 gave me endless amount of time to think. How I could move forward doing what I love, sharing my passion for wine? It started with zoom wine tastings together with Rosalitas which gave me purpose and joy. As the interest grew I could see potential to further expand the idea to focus on winemakers, who have had it tough getting their wine out with bars and restaurants closed.
With that came the creation of Saft in lockdown 2.0.
People always ask me, "how did you learn so much about wine?" Truth is through tasting. Taste. Taste. Taste. Sure, for me it was part of my job working in hospitality for over 20 years and in the wine industry for the past 15 years but its all been through taste and chatting about the wines.
My wine passion started in NYC while I worked at the urban winery that is, Brooklyn Winery. Here is where I learnt and fell in love with the wonderful world of wine. After nearly 5 years in NYC I returned home to Melbourne where I spent 5 years managing Toorak Cellars.
Over the years I have been fortunate enough to have traveled for both work and pleasure to visit wine producers all around the world. From a whirl wind tour around France hitting 7 regions in 10 days, to visiting the world famous vineyard slopes in Germany, to Southern Italian pockets and throughout my time in the US seen many of their regions too.
I completed my WSET Level 3 course in 2018 which kept my learning side growing and continued to fuel the passion.
Creating Saft is giving me the opportunity to share my love for wine and introduce you to some of the smaller producers of Australia I have come to love. I will share wines that are treated honestly and made with passion and integrity. I hope you love them as much as I do!
